found on a gravel path next to a riverbank in uppsala, sweden. I have never seen anything like it, it had the right feet for a caterpillar, so it's not a wierd beetle larva or anything....
it was about the length and thickness of my index finger (my ruler tells me that is 8cm long and 6cm around)
the it was entirely that orange colour on its underneath, and sort of maroon on top, which I guess could be pre-pupation colour change?

any ideas?

Dragged from the depths of my memory....errrr.....it's a goat moth caterpillar Wink The larvae burrow into deciduous trees.
