Very informative thread and very interesting, thankyou for posting this.
Couple questions though, with the water bottles on top - can they all reach? I know it may sound daft but how do the smaller ones?
And how does your food trough thing work, I can see the food on top, where does it come through?

It looks like the rats just pull the food through the mesh when they want it. |

I have a few questions,
Do the animals mind not being able to hide from each other ???
Do they try and gnaw at the wood ??? _________________ Kieron

Peaches, by the time the little ones stop taking milk from their' mothers they're big enough to reach the water bottles! and as Phil said, the food is on the mesh, and they munch on it and then pull it down, its extremely efficient, and gives the rats a challenge to get to the food, which is good for them! |
Ah right.....just couldn't figure out the food bit lol I do forget how much bigger the rats are from mice, with regards to the water bottle.
Thanks for the reply. _________________ www.ratsnakefoundation.org |

I've never seen any difference in behaviour or breeding results in rats by giving hides etc
In colder weather a hide would help protect litters, and that's the only time I add extra nesting materials etc _________________
