Hi!
I have a question about uv bulbs.
for a baby panther chameleon, would a 10.0 UVB exo terra repti-glo blub be sufficient to get D3 vitamins into him?
Got the little critter under one, but was told today that it wouldn't suffice, and i would need a T-Rex Active UV Heat 100w Flood Lamp (see attached picture).
What's the score... I thought he would be ok under the repti-glo...
Also, he's been sitting at the top of his cage recently with his eyes shut... This can't be good, surely?
please help

Harry i use reptisun 10 for my babies and a small halogen desk lamp, a 100 watt flood would cook him, no he shouldnt be sitting with his eyes shut..... check his temps are not to hot.
Is he eating drinking and pooing ok?
Try and give him as much privacy as you can, put him somewhere high this makes them feel more secure.
Pictures always help

Hey,
He is on a high shelf at the moment. it is just above head height when we are standing so that shouldnt be a problem.
The temps are 60-65 in the evening and 80-85 in the day. Some one suggested that he may be too cold so he's turning black to attract heat. i dont think he's very well and havent a clue why, especially with him shutting his eyes.....
do you think that the setup sounds about right, i know everyone is different, but just generally speaking?
Thanks
Rach |

Rach baby panthers are hard, his temps sound fine, how big is his viv? to big can freak them out.
I keep mine in exo terras they are 12x12x18 high they like height rather than width.
Is he eating ok and pooing? _________________

My mistake....his temp is 75-80 during the day.
he is in a glass tank at the moment, which measures 24in wide, 15in high and 12in deep.
There is a 100w red basking light, 30 cm above the basking spot and a 10.0 UBV bulb. The lid has been taken off for ventilation purposes. He will be housed in a new viv when he is bigger.
Do you think that the tank is too big? he has no bother in climbing around and seems to enjoy exploring. we have bought some more vines which arrived today so will put them in hopefully tomorrow.
Thank you for your suggestion of getting the suction pads from the fish shop, got them no bother what so ever
He goes a blue/grey colour when we take him out of the tank, so i think he enjoys having a look around.
he is eating and pooing fine, we put 3-4 crickets in and he seems to gobble them up, maybe leaving 1-2 in the evening.... should he be eating more?
Sorry for all the Q's

Ok take out the red bulb they need light like the sun.
As i said i use those small halogen desk lamps 25 watt it gives off enough heat.
The open top wont be retaining the heat very well or the humidity, is there anyway you can section the tank off so its not as long.
Smaller is better try a divider half way.
The thing is Rach they are all different what may work for one might not for another, its trial and error at times. will try and find pics of my baby setups and post them.
Have you any live plants in they help with the humidity?
Its hard answering without seeing him i hope you can understand that _________________

Thank you for your response. i will take a pic of the set up when i get home. i am at work at the mo, wont be home till 10. but i will definately do it.
And i do understand how hard it must be for you, just wish you could come and see it and then say, do this...do this and try that lol...
We dont use live plant no, wasnt really 100% happy to do so as i am concerned that they may have pesticides or something on them. i know they can be washed but still bit unsure.
Would it be ok to divide with cardboard? could do with something he cant climb on really?!
thanks again |

this is not good sign. i would reckon that the panther is dehydrated as this is a huge problem when young. do you know what humidity is at? |
