|

Hello again all . As you may or may not know, I am in the process of building a vivarium to host 1 male Gecko & 2 female Gecko's. I have put together a state of the art, extremely detailed and carefully planned diagram of the Viv to show the size and lighting/heat I am thinking about using.
Please take a look...
I have been told a heat mat AND a ceramic heat bulb is unnecessary. But due to the size of my Viv (4x2x2) and considering how COLD my attic bedroom gets at night and in the winter, I doubt that a heat mat alone would generate enough heat to keep the Viv at a suitable temperature.
Also, as you can see, I want a normal red bulb at the right side of the cage. This is only to be used at night time in periods of darkness when I want to monitor the geckos nocturnal behavior as I have been told that they're eyes cannot detect red light?
Feel free to post any suggestions, constructive criticism or any ideas that you think would make my vivarium a better place to live for my geckos!
Thanks, Manny

I am quiet worried because i can see no cold end! this is just as vital as a hot end.
If i was you i wouldn't bother with any of them bulbs but use a 60watt spotlight bulb in the hot end just during the day for creating a photo period and for viewing.
you say you are worried about temps to low in your attic with the heat mat is on a thermostat it should not do any harm. and remember the desert can get very cold at night as well. _________________ www.freewebs.co.uk/southeastreptiles |

The normal red bulb will only be on for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time when its dark, just so I can monitor the Leo's |

I would still replace that ceramic with a normal light bulb to give them a photo period. _________________ www.freewebs.co.uk/southeastreptiles |

If your looking for a night viewing bulb (red) I would recomend an LED light... they come in red and give practically no heat _________________ Paul
