Hey, we have a 2-3 year old adopted male yemen chameleon that we've had for around a year and a half now. We're interested in breeding him however he is very grumpy and set in his ways. If we introduced a female, would it be possible for them to breed or would he just attack her. We are aware that they cannot live together
He is lonely and we think some chameleon lurve would sort him out _________________

There are several things you can do if you wish to introduce a lady friend.
If you put a girl in with him now he would just jump her and that is not good for the female or indeed the male so you have to follow a process.
They should be introduced over the course of a week. Let them see each other daily through the viv doors but not actually have any contact.
Get a mirror and without the female around show him his reflection for 5 minutes each day over the course of the week. This will make him think there is another male present and he will go through the proper courtship ritual. Head bobbing vibrating etc etc. Rather than just taking her.
When they do finally meer monitor any activity very closely but if you follow the introduce and mirror technique you should not have any problems..
These issues would all be resovled if people weren't so afraid of keeping chams together... |

It is ok yes...
A lot of literature and care sheets perpetuate this 'myth' that chams HATE each other and that if you keep them together they will die but it is us that create the problems not them.
It is our incorrect husbandry and misinterpretation of the chams that leads to disasters. Most of my chams are kept together and i have no issues.
There are a couple of species that cannot be kept together but for the majority of species social interaction would be a daily occurence in the wild. |

For what species of chameleon do you keep more than one per cage? 1.1 per cage? How long have you kept a pair/group together in the same cage? How old are the chameleons? |

several species..yemens/panther/high casque/elliots/would keep the meru's when i can find a female!
At one point i had a couple of 1.2 yemens but now only have 1.1 mostly cos some of the females are having a 'timeout'. Have 1.1 or 0.2 for the rest..
The yemens have been together for years now and they never have issues. girls get along like grumpy old ladies and the 1.1 just love each other...serously the males sulk when they have no girls to latch onto. |

3x2x2 for 1.2..you can keep a 1.2 in a 4x3x2 quite happily.
In order to keep a pair though you have to have the husbandry down pat. If you can't you will have problems. |
