hi all
What is the best way to judge if female is upto being bred 2 years in a row??
Basically she was 2.2kgs this year when bred. After eggs where laid in june she went down to 1.6k. since laying eggs she has ate 10 rats between 75 and 120grms in weight and if last year is anything to go buy she probably will ahve 10 more by october.
All advice comments experience will be appreciated.
I will gladly give her a year off if not convinced she is upto it.

see if you can pinch the skin around the bottom 3rd of her body, if the conditioning is back to normal it should be quite hard to pinch, or not at all.. its like the skins stretched, and needs to be filled back out.
thats just one way that i know of
hope this helps. |

Feed her more regularly than normal this month, this helps females build up fat stores that they will need later, then in september return to normal feeding. You want her to have fat reserves but not be "chubby".. chubby girls are bad breeders. (Insert crude comment from Stu or MJ here) |
John you know I like a challenge and you made that WAY to easy so no I wont

Wouldn't giving the animal a season off help with the following season? and health ect? or is a year off enough for them? _________________ Paul

If she does happen to get a bit too chubby, replacing the water bowl with a bowl of beer will normally put her back up to "good breeder" status Just be thankful pythons dont have hands to grab hold with, otherwise a few too many rats could lead to "chubby female python rodeo", whihc may in some cases cause undue stress... _________________ Interested in amphibians? As said above really, make sure she is the same weight or a little more than last time she bred and then let HER decide. You can cycle her, add males etc but if the snake doesn't think it's ready it won't breed no matter what the books say or tricks you try _________________

Sensible stuff scott as usual. If she gets upto weight I will give her a go and let nature take its course.
thanks
