|
|
The first two clutches of both perenties and lace monitors have finished hatching.
Late last week there was a flurry of activity in my incubator, with both lace monitors and perenties pipping and/or hatching at the same time.
This is what I call a really good day - my two favourite monitor species hatching at the same time in the same incubator:

I have two incubators and this is my 'hatching incubator'. I move the egg box containing the eggs most likely to hatch next from the other incubator into this one, for that extra bit of attention and care. When all of the eggs in this incubator hatch, I move the next two egg boxes in.
This was Friday's effort on the perentie shelf:
This was Monday's (and the last of the perentie egg boxes):
Combined with the first egg box (4 eggs) that's 11 perenties in total. Now that they're all hatched out and feeding, they've gone back to Sydney Wildlife World and several are currently on display (photo below). Soon they'll be sent to other zoos and fauna parks around the country.
In the meantime, the little lace monitors are feeding, basking and doing almost everything else lace monitors do, but in miniature.
