Yust a quick Q: How many here use UV filters standard on their lenses? DOes anyone know if, aside from price, there is a significant difference between Hoya and B&W filters?

Nope...I may use polarisers occasionally but must admit a uv filter is worth having to protect the lens from damage,I will be getting one for my telephoto for when I go to a rally as the stones and debris that fly up could easily damage the lens.

I want to get UV filters to protect the lens, leave them on all the time. I am just not sure if it would influence the picture quality in any way. Good ones shouldn't though. And you can't simulate the effect of a good polarisation filter in PS Razz As for other filters, you are right Eggman Very Happy

As you say Ron the decent uv's shouldn't degrade image quality although I have heard of people complaining of this.

A quality UV filter will not have any negative effect upon the final image.

I know a few full time wildife photographers and the ONLY filters thery use are the occasional polariser. a warm up filter and the essential UV filter.

I suspect few natural history photographers will use/over use on photoshop type manipulation unless thats the idea.

Ron,

both produce very high quality glass so I wouldn't expect much difference.

e-bay sometimes throws up some real bargains.
