The Were-Rat!

This is NOT a skin/hair problem but genetic.

That's the WereRat, it has a Mane like a lion and some hair on it's rear. Laughing Almost poddle like...maybe I'll change the name to Ratoodle Wink

We have some great rat projects going now, dumbo's, blue's, siamease, ratsters, baldies, semi balds, some that we call Pieds, a real interesting mix.

We are trying to get the thick Rex hair into some of the more unusual colours.

The only downside to them all is that each week when we cull for the frezer it takes ages to select out all the cute ones, we normally end up keeping 100 new 'fancy' rats each week 'just cause they look nice' Embarassed Laughing

That wererat is just plain ugly. Shocked It may be genetic but most people will just think it has some disease Laughing You do have some interesting rat projects though. Wouldn't mind a ratster, as long as it is really tame since there is no tail to pick it up otheriwse.
I used to have that problem of leaving the cute ones with mice. So now I breed only white labbies, saves me a lot of time Wink Although that may change now that I have bald mice Confused
BTW Eggman, the bald ones do grow slower, probably because they use more energy to keep themselves warm. But overall its not too bad, I always keep some bald ones in my colony.

Laughing The wererat is a bit bizarre, if it does breed 'true' would be nice to fix it so it's either furry with a bald head or furry head and bald body Laughing

We do the opposite with my rats Ron, ALL white rats with pink eyes are the first for the freezer retirement home Wink The reason being is that we have a small number of a true lab strain ticking over, taking AGES to get them resistant to domestic breeding (as opposed to sterile labs) but we are slowly building up the numbers, but obviously don't want our old strain getting mixed in...so all whites from them go straight to sleep.

Here's a few more WereRat pics Wink

Not really noticed a big difference, we have two litters plus any small litters fostered into each nursing box, so it's hard to tell if any grow quicker than others, plus like I say once they have weaned they go straight to sleep.
