Here's some pics showing a viv design i've kinda adapted and made my own so to speak;)
As you can see they utilize 'the best of both worlds' in that you have the tray or tub(underfloor) which lends to ease of cleaning.Added to that a nice viv above that can be decorated to 'please the eye'.

The floor of the viv has a circle/hole cut in the middle of the floor allowing access to the underfloor area, this in turn acts as a hidelike /dark area.
I have been using this type of viv design, in various sizes for over 15 years for my breeding adults with lots of success.

I think with the wide variety of tubs/containers in lots of sizes available today this design/system could be utilised by lots of keepers.
These work particulary well with shy or nervous snakes or ones showing a bad feeding response. I have in fact in the past used versions of this design with young royals that intially showed little or no feeding response. It seems like when they're in the underfloor area and you introduce a food item through the hole it sparks a more instinctual response(?).

Thanks for Lookin...........AL

Cool Certainly a great idea Al..easy maintenance too!..do you find they spend more time in the hides?..do you have any sort of heat under the tub?

Chhers Stu Cool

Excellent questions mate Smile

It varies from snake to snake and also the time of day really.I have some that virtually live in the tray/underfloor all the time, by chioce of course.Others spend a lot of time in the viv area inside their hides, upside down plastic 'window type' plant pots/tubs (with hole cut on side).like i say it varies some.
I have noted that most of the faeces etc is left in the tray area, which is always handy Wink

As for the heat under the tub, there is a natural gradient coming into that area via the heat source in the viv beneath.
I've found that certain species do seem to benefit from this 'extra' heat source, however I found that other do Not.
I counter this by using a sheet of cavity wall insulation board in between the vivs and this seems to help reduce the temp rising into the tray area sufficently for my needs.

Cheers for that info Al..Just don't forget to take the water bowl off the hole after cleaning! Laughing Would you say on a whole that they are fairly secretive snakes or do some display more than others..if so would you consider racking?
