well a few weeks back i decided to convert one of the sheds in the garden into a reptile room, here is the progress so far

it started with the shed being full to the top with junk we have collected over the yeras, took 3 days to empty lol

well after this was empty i was left with a 12ft by 8ft shed Smile EMPTY SHED Smile

well after it was empty it was time to start the hard work lol

first up i had to repaint the out site so a nice coat of the best paint i have ever used out side(lasts years ) i was left with this Smile

then i went around the inside and filled all the gaps with water proof sealant(like the stuff you use in kitchens etc.

now it is 100% air tight the insulation can go in,more pics and me boring you to follow very soon Smile

any coments welcome Smile

Next Saturday !!!!!!

To do this properly you will have to insulate walls, ceiling and floor. Lay 3/4in sheeting for the floor, then line the ceiling and walls with either 5 or 10mm MDF or plywood, seal it and then paint it. Then fix electric sockets at multiple points around the walls and connect to the mains supply with a circuit breaker fitted.

Don't forget it will be a lot easier to heat the shed and Viv's than to keep it cool in hot weather, an air con unit one size bigger than recommended for the actual size would be my recommendation (personal experience)

I am at the present re-doing my shed. IE re-sealing all corners and joins, painting the walls and ceiling, laying new insulation for the floor and then fitting 3/4in ply over the top. All is done except to lay a floor covering over the plywood which will be done this weekend.
To dismantle all racking and Viv's from my shed took 3 days, another day to empty all other stuff IE trays, barks, bowls, boxes and other rubbish that collects after a few years.
I think that you will be very surprised at how long it takes to get a bare shed ready for reptile habitation.

thanks for all thast m ate

well all the insulation is here cut ready and so are the boards to go over the top,the electrics will be done thursday/friday and then the insulation and boards will go on,then sun/mon when this is done i hope to paint the inside then wednesday do another coat and seal all agian if needs be.

then thursday/friday i hope it will be just finishing touchs to it all,and lay the carpet on the floor Smile

then sat/sun it will be moving in time i have a aircon unit which will be fitted same time as the electrics are being done Smile

hope this explains it a bit more plus i have 2 weeks off work so i will be in there all day for 2 weeks if needs be Smile

Sounds good EXCEPT for the carpet.

That was my biggest mistake, having carpet on the floor.

It looks good for the first few months especially after you nick the wifes hoover and give it a good going over Very Happy BUT after a while it starts to smell.
I didnt notice it at all but I noticed other peoples faces when they came in. I will be laying thick anti-slip lino at the weekend (it came today) It will be easier to clean and disinfect than a carpet.

PS. Just noticed that the shed has double doors ....a great way for all that expensive heat to escape, especially in the winter. Sad Sad
I've got a double doorway so that you enter the shed and then go through another door to the animal side, also another lock(s) Very Happy Very Happy

Yes but as we all know Scott is Essex's version of the excentric billionaire and can afford it Laughing Laughing
