I've just bought a pair of Royals and didn't ask the age
They are probably 3o inch long but I havent weighed them yet.
Is there a minimum weight or size at which they will breed? i dont want them to breed till the female is bigger so if theres a chance they will breed now I shall have to split them. _________________ Corns, Kings, Tais, Burms, Carpets and loads a Mantis |

I think the general consensus is 1000-1500g as a minimum, obviously the bigger the better due to the weight loss after delivery of the eggs. A weight of 1800g is probably best. _________________ A lil bit of Madagascar

Males CAN go from as small as around 300g but generally 600-800 is acceptable. Females the minimum varies from 1200-1500 based on age, the older the female, the more acceptable a weight towards the bottom end of the range is. |
I agree with Eggman. _________________ www.unusualalbinosnakes.com |

I bred 2 royals this year. The female that produced was over 2k and produced 7 eggs.
The other female was about 1200grms and mated at least a dozen times with the same male and has not produced.
(She should breed easily this coming year scott )
I think scott somewhere said his smaller females did not produce, so probably the 1500grm rule is a good guide.
Also my female that produced went from 2.1k down 2 about 1500grms after egg laying. So if a 1200grm produced 3 eggs she could end up about 800/900grms.
Lots of people have bred with no probs at the 1000/1300 range but 1500grm is the ideal.

So would the best thing to do be to spit them up anyway? just in case she breeds to small.
I still havent weighed them but after reading through it seems that the rules are a little bendy so the only way to ensure they dont bree would be to keep them separate.
Thanks guys _________________ Corns, Kings, Tais, Burms, Carpets and loads a Mantis |

weigh them, buy a set of kitchen scales if you have not already got some.
My big female was 900grms when I got her in june 2006. In 10 months she was 2.1k and produced 7 eggs.
You need to know the weights to get proper advice.
I keep royals seperate all teh time apart from breeding, a lot less stress, no worries about feeding accidents etc.
