Easy on the caps locks. lol.
This time of year maybe too late?
I bred all my hognoses back in March/April. All you can do is introduce the pair, I normally put the male in the females cage (due to males living in smaller tubs) and let them get on with it. They are quite randy little snakes and sometimes mate just for the hell of it if kept together. lol.
Good luck and theres always next year. Cool them in December for 3 months then wake them up.

hi
I am hoping to breed mine this coming year. My female is 102grms and male about 120grms. I Have read that females need to be a least 160grms. The way she is feeding she should get to this weight by december.
what do you think?
What is the smallest weight you have bred hoggies (TO GAZ and anyone else who has bred hoggies.)
cheers

Mike,
My biggest female is 410g, my scrawny breeding female is 120grams (she gets upto 150g but stops feeding after laying eggs for ages). I've also got a couple of yearlings which range between 30grams - 80grams.
Hope this helps.

How many eggs does she have on average? how does this compare with a medium/large hoggie?
thanks

The scrawny female was given to me in February as a trade, but turnt out she was a bad feeder, I put it down to settling in and quarantined her for 3weeks, in which she ate 1 mouse. I then used one of my males to 'service' her to see if she had been cooled or if she would need to be cooled to lay eggs. She did lay 5 eggs and one hatched, but he is really tiny.
As for the big female, she laid 19 eggs her first clutch (12 hatched) and 9 eggs her second clutch (6 hatched).
How old are your snakes? My big female was bred for the first time last year and laid 10 eggs and all hatched. She was 2yrs old at that time.

The male is an early 06 and about 120grms.
the female was later on in 2006 and is about 110grms. when i got them she was about half the size of the male, but not far off now.
thanks

I'd reccomend you got her above 150g, to make sure she goes through hibernation successfully. Then as she comes out of hibernation make sure you feed her well, because she will need to make up what she has lost and this is time they will normally start to put weight on, as they are very hungry.
