Hi,
I have one, a youngish cranwelli which i keep in a very simple set up-just leca, some peat and leaf litter on top of this. It has access to a water dish too which it tends to soak in from time to time. I took Andrew from pollywogs advice and went for 8-10 times the size of your frog as far as floor area of the tank goes-mines in a small plastic box right now but this will be replaced as it grows.
I heat with a heatmat set at a temperature of 26 degrees c using a heat mat thermostat. Lighting is via a small arcadia unit/bulb, and this is on a timer. The enclosure is sprayed daily, and the frog is also fed daily on earthworms at the moment(though it could take almost anything which would fit in its mouth!)
As far as behaviour goes, it really just sits there in the day, in sight but partially under leaves, and it burrows occasionally. I hear it moving around a lot at night though-in and out of the water dish.
fox403 is a good person to talk to about these frogs _________________ Interested in amphibians? Join us at Myamphibia for friendly banter, amazing pictures and great information. Make some amphibious friends today! |

thanks for that sam!
theres not much more i can add from the good advice sam has giving u.. , u can go wild with the set-up and do a mini jungle scene but most keep it plane and simple a water dish that's not to deep so it can get in and out, some substrate eg peat so they can bury in, all ceratophrys are ambush predators so like to be buried.. heat-mats are fine but i prefer a heat bulb if u use heat-mat take care its a low watt one u don't want that bottom pane to warm and cook your frog and as sam said garden worms are a excellent food ,but they will eat most things
when it comes to buying your frog don't go for the smallest because it looks cute try and get one 3-4 months plus as the fatality's are very high when young |
