|
|
My freind has an corn, and she says she cant breed from her, untill shes been "Seasoned", which she describes as giving them a spring, summer, winter, autumn (not in that order!), with differences in temp and photo periods, is this true?
I would have thought that if a reptile is kept at the right conditions, it will reproduce when its good and ready, no matter what you do???! (Or is that my inexperiance shining through again?! _________________ 1.1.7 Bearded Dragons

to stimulate breeding in corns you must brumate them, this involves lowering the temperature and decreasing food, technically producing a 'winter'.
for more info look here: http://www.vmsherp.com/LCBreedingCorns.htm
hope it helps _________________ Tom

Not quite true to say that you must brumate corns, I don't brumate mine and they breed anyway. I have eggs in incubation as usual.
Quite a few other people breed corn successfully without brumation. _________________ John

I don't brumate mine either. When spring comes, I start to make their enclosures a bit more humid, spraying with tepid water. I do this for a few days before I introduce them. _________________ www.ratsnakefoundation.org |

Some may look at that and think people do it just so that they can get babies out earlier for the show season and also have longer time to get the female back into shape ready to breed again _________________

I will say Tom that brumating can improve the chance of breeding, especially with males. How much the chance improves is open to question but it does not seem to be very much. _________________ John
