I have decided to keep my baby crestie on cage carpet now as I want to start feeding them crickets and I’m worried they will digest some of the substrate they are currently on.

However I have a situation that I’m sure people on here must have too.

My terrarium is 18x18 inches.

You cannot get (well I couldn’t find) any cage carpet that would cover the whole terrarium in one go.

Therefore I got a pack of two bits of 24x12 inch carpet and will need to cut them accordingly.

My question is, how do people normally join it together?

Do you cut to bits that are just the correct size, do you overlap them, do you stick them together some how?

I’m curious as to how I should do this the best way?

How are you going to keep the humidity up?

Why dont you just use CocoFiber or Eco-Easth, it works for mine and he has crickets and he is fine!

I would use damp moss peat as the substrate, compact it down REALLY HARD, use some sort of tamper... When the gecko pounces on the cricket very little if any substrate will be disturbed

Not sure where I heard it, but some people find that gecko teeth and reptile carpet have a velcro effect, not good!

Cheers for the suggestions.

The gecko is currently on Faunology Jungle Bed which Im worried could get digested.

I could try and compact this down, but Id still worry while the gecko is a baby.

Ive already got the Zoo Med Cage Carpet so I will be using this next as it ll be a waste of money otherwise.

The humidity in the terrarium is about 70% normally with the current substrate, but Id have to monitor it if I change to carpet.

Im more interested in people that have the problem I was asking about than the types of substrate to keep my gecko on, but I do appreciate the other suggestions made for future reference.

not used it my self but what is the back of the carpet like ? if its just flat like a floor tile etc . i would just mate the two pieces together then run a length of duct tape up it .

or you could get the sewing kit out

I keep my little one on CocoFibre, and he is fine! The substrate is not compleatly squased down and he gets his crickets fine!
