Now this is a question for the hot keepers that have kept for years the longer the better.

Have you been bitten, if so how many times and by what snakes, and what were the circumstances?

The reason I ask is because in my book I have got it says "there are two types of venomous keepers, those that have been bitten and those that will" and I was talking to someone earlier today and they said sooner or later you will get bitten if your keeping hots, so whats your opinions guys?

Whilst i haven't been keeping hots under DWA conditions I have been working with them for years particularly in my photographic side so here is my opinion for what its worth....

Play with fire and eventually you get burnt!!!

Its as simple as that.

Human nature means eventually we all mess up.

Thee bites in thirty years....all in the wild ...OUCHHHHH!!!

It hurts Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Sorry mate I wasn't ignoring your thread, I just didn't feel qualified to answer. Only been keeping hots a short while.

I have been keeping venomous snakes since 1997, and have not been bitten. I do realize that the odds for becoming bit, is changing by every day that I donīt..

Isīt all about your thinking.. I do not open a cage if I am:
Drunk, hangovered, stressed or have other people with me for example.. I do "count in" my animals living in the cage before opening. I never stick a hand in a terrarium where there is venomous snakes, not even to grab a waterbowl that is really close..

Use your head, and add a 3:rd category of people to your book.. "The ones that think first."

i personally have easily kept over 30 different species of venomous snakes, mainly in pairs and trios. i have never been bitten.

i have never even been close.

common sense plays an enormous part in keeping hots, if you dont have them then stay away.

if you are trying to keep them for the wrong reasons, you are asking for it sooner than later.

but it does break down to WHEN not IF. when you have been keeping them for 30 years or so and you have hundreds think of the amount of times you have to interact with these animals. thats thousands of CHANCES you are taking, and each one can be fatal.

i know personally a few people that have been bit numerous times and are missing fingers from catching bites.

it doesnt seem fun.

but i will continue to keep hots not matter what.

to me, the risk isnt enough.

what he means is the risk of getting bitten isnt enough to put him off keeping, like the risk of dying in a car crash isnt gonna stop him driving right? sounds right to me.

The risk of getting bitten still doesnt put me off keeping them it makes me more wary and has made me think more carefully about whether it is something I want to do, so thats a good thing
