Its a Idololmantis Diabolica...they are just about one of the most difficult mantids to raise and breed for anyone other than experienced mantid keepers, I'm sure Rob will fill you in on the details better than I ever could |

Roy is right with the ID and with the complexity of this species. Oh, it is one of my females too
Take no notice of care sheets you get online, these are often put together by people who have not reared them for any length of time.
They feed most readily on flying insects and mostly ignore crawling ones.
They do not need very high temperature nor humidity; myself and the breeders of this species keep them at 80 F and spray only once per week, if that. I have only ever seen two instances in which they drank.
I have a few adult pairs but the males are very reluctant to mate. Infact, I'm almost tempted to feed them to another mantis 'coz they are so useless
A couple of females have been mated, but I don't hold out much hope.
Any other questions then please ask !
Here are some more pictures ..........

I have one of these as well, gorgeous and so far what Rob says is totally true, like it dry and hardly ever drink and also love moths and large flies and dare I say it wasps..
hoping to get mine sexed and try to find a mate for it and see where it goes!
mine is also very aggressive towards me and has bitten me twice when my hand has been near it, its display is also gorgeous. |
