i brought my female black throat on sunday and i still havent seen her since she went in to her hid ,i know shes beenout while the house were empty today as shes had a massive crap
i fed her when i brought her home but im worrying as she hasnt eaten for 3 days should i remove her from her hide to feed her or shall i leave her to come out in her own time
the house has been a bit mad since i brought her home as my daughter hasnt been to school so it been a bit noisy
how long will it take for her to become more used to us and will start to venture out more
shes not a baby shes around 30 inches

how long will it take for her to settle in?
i allso i have a bosc and a tegu but they were never scared when i first brought them home theve been on the go from day one,

if you bought this animal from a shop (its not one of the ones from wharf is it?) then it's most likely wild caught.

it will be shy especially when settling into a new environment, it will probably behave in a very defensive manner as well, watch to make sure that it doesn't damage itself if it tail whips especially.

For food i'd offer a selection including rodents and larger insects, it will most likely need feeding up ... then you'll probably get a better idea of it's temperament.

Have you wormed it? a dose of panacur and flagyll would not go a miss, also check for ticks, BTs are covered in ticks usually, check the ears, nostrils and scales in the arm pits, vent and on the back of the neck. I have used vaseline with great effect or use something like frontline dabbed on.

it is from wharf yes ,it doesnt really worry me that its wild caught i still believe with enough time and patience she can be calmed down
how do i worm her ?
she ate plenty of mealworms when i got her home then had an egg and a rat weaner and she still looked like she wanted more shes had a big helping of ground turkey today
she was extreamly aggresive when i was putting her in the viv but as soon as id picked her up she just went calm and then whiped me as soon as i put her down i expected all of that anyway ,
im just going to give her plenty of time to get used to us and im sure she`ll be ok
as for ticks i didnt see anything when i checked her but she looks like a wild caught she has a mark on her tail and im sure she wouldnt have if she waas captive bred

i have one last question im trying to work out how old she could be, shes around 30 inches and unlike alot of other sub adults ive seen shes lost quite alot of her pattern you can see it faint but not as strong as others ive seen,does there pattern fade with age?

Patterns do fade with age but it is not really a good indication of how old your monitor is. The reality is that it is almost impossible to know the age of your animal as she/he is wild caught. At 30' long she could be anywhere from 6 months to 6+years! I know of a CBB albig that hit 6' in 12 months and i also know of ones that are long term captives, and have been with there keepers for several years, and are only pushing the 4' mark.

The point i am trying to make is that size is not a good indication of age, neither is colour........To tell you the truth i don't know what is!

to look at i would say she isnt that young at all ill try and get pics as soon as i have my camera
if she isnt young would it hinder my chances of getting her to trust me ?
how big are yours rick and do you have any pics of them
