great photos. Do they have a social hierarchy?

Definately yes. There is much bickering and food stealing going on on a daily basis. They always roost together in as tight a mass as possible though.

Are they prolific breeders?

By all accounts they can be yes. I am just learning as I go along with them to be honest, I literally discovered the first baby that the colony has produced to my knowledge 5 minutes ago. Very Happy

That's wonderful news, Peter. They look fascinating animals. Don't they make a lot of mess though?

Thanks all. Cool

Getting a pic is going to be hard. The mother keeps the baby hidden under her wing all day, and huddles into the mass of the other bats. She left it at the roost last night whilst she fed, but it was tucked away behind some fake vine and I only just spotted it. I would say it`s been around a while and I have not noticed it as it is pretty well advanced.

It`s definately considerably further advanced than the baby in the pics that Scott posted up before. It looks like a perfect miniature of the adults.

Whilst cleaning them out today, I noticed that another female bat is looking considerably plump so maybe another is on the way. Smile

Here`s mum with the baby under her wing. You can just make out the youngsters "elbows" and an ear poking through.
