I'm finding it very hard to get the humidity up in my Crestie viv, the temperature is 72F, which Ive read between 70-80F is perfect for them, and currently the humidity is 33%. I am misting with a plant water spray, but set to the most it can spray outward, if you see what I mean?
How can I get the humidity higher? |

what kind of viv is it in ? maybe its getting to much ventilation
also put the spray on the mist(closed) setting not the big(open) setting
i have an exoterra viv with vents on the top and it holds the humidity pretty well
i also use one of these pump type sprayers , much easier to use than hand spraying

I do exactly the same as negri, and have no problem with humidity, I also have exo terra vivs. My humidty is around 70% and I guess it goes down to about 60% when the light is heating it.. _________________ Custom made vivs to your requirements. Pm me or email to qualityvivs@hotmail.co.uk |

Im also the same, my usual humidity is 60-70% and my humidity ranges from 72-75 throught the day and a drop to 65 at night. and im also using the Exo's, maybe if your having trouble keeping the humidity up, add an absorbent substrate? spagnum moss and peat is a good mix for a base, keeps the humidity extremely well. Good luck. _________________ [3.2.6 R.Ciliatus|1.4.7 R.Auriculatus

Thank you for the replies, I've managed to get the humidity up to the correct levels. There was too much ventilation at the top, so thats what was wrong..
Thanks anyways guys.. |

I have a digital thermometer, which has a humidity sensor too. It was never above 35%, hence why I thought it was too low. Anyways, its sorted now.. Thanks guys..
Ps, what sort of live pant? |

I keep my two adult females in an extra large flexarium and they haven't had any problems with shedding etc. I have a large shallow water bowl in at all times (it's actually a pyrex quiche dish) and I give the viv (and substrate) a light misting on an evening. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

We don't monitor the humidity on our Cresteds, they have a 3 inch thick peat substrate and the viv's are misted well every evening, never had any problem with shedding or anything. I don't think you need to worry too much about the actual humidity level if you're using a substrate that helps with humidity and are misting correctly.
I think I also mentioned this to you on another forum, but the humidity shouldn't be at the high level all the time or even most of the time. Humidity does need to reach around 70% but this is when you've just misted, through the folowing day the viv should be allowed to dry out again otherwise you will start to get mould and bacterial problems.
Just out of interest, Scott - do you monitor the humidity on your Cresteds? _________________ 0.1.0 - Royal Pythons
