Hi Guys
I'm picking up my first Emerald (Suriname variant) next week to add to my ever expanding collection of chondros. Would be interested to hear from people currently keeping Emeralds, especially those that keep both Emeralds and Chondros. How different are their husbandry requirements?
This is basics of what I know so far;
Emeralds to be kept slightly cooler than chondros
Emeralds to be kept at slightly higher humidity
Emerald to receive more ventilation to allow higher air circulation
Feed Emeralds smaller meals and less often.
Specific questions I have;
Is water a suitable substrate for Emeralds?
How are you providing air circulation?
Are you providing a night-time temp drop?
Are you using lighting in your viv?
Is your viv vertically or horizontally oriented?
How are you heating your viv?
Thanks guys

Hey stuart you get one from cpr by any chance?
Ive worked around a couple of adult emeralds not mine unfortunatly. You are right about keeping them cooler as its the higher temps that tend to start causing regurge problems. My mate has a gradient of 84f down to 76f with no night time drop and they are doing fine.
As for circulation, a couple of small pc fans on a timer maybe? im sure a minute twice a day would suffice.
Look forward to seeing some pics of both setup and snake you lucky lucky so and so. _________________ 0.0.1 Biak Green tree python

yes its from crystal palace. I had a chondro off of them a year ago and its been problem free so I'm happy to deal with them and it seems very well priced too!
Off to Hamm this weekend as well so who knows what else I'll end up with!! |

Up until recently if it was a CB animal all you needed was the receipt, but I think that all changes a couple of months ago and now you need a transport license as well. Haven't really looked into it yet as I'm not back at Hamm now until September.
cheers
