Keeping tropical fish... Been keeping plecos for over 10 years now, and breeding them. Almost as fun as herps, but are difficult. These are a few in my current collection, current breeding projects are Hypancistrus sp. monte dourado and Hypancistrus sp. L260.
Here are the monte dourado's... |

lol, not even morphs, there are way over 400 species of "plecos" in the Loricariidae family. With I don't know how many genus' some with 20+ species in. Many many are yet to be given specific latin names, but it's getting there slowly but surely, although there are systems in place for us to be able to tell the difference of each one.
and thanks for your kind words |

Great pics.
Yep, plenty of plecs to choose from. If you were to broaden it to catfish, there must be literally 1000`s of species worldwide. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

That last one's gorgeous!
I work on a few fish sites, so may be able to offer a hand - how big is it, and where did you get it? |

the last one, Baryancistrus sp. L018 (the medium spot if you want to count them as a locality different or even different sp.), is unfortunately probably the most difficult i keep. Being from a genus that is usually found in deep water and a limnivore, they need a lot of protein but mainly vegetable matter, and they eat ALL the time. I have heard of people painting egg whites and spirulina powder and peas onto clay tiles which is supposed to be quite good. On the whole though a lot of people find that they dont grow much beyond an inch or two from when they got them. This guy maybe grew from 1.5 inch to 3 in a year (considering their max is 12" this is a v. slow growth rate). I wouldn't get another one, they are 99.99% of the time WC (i'm not sure if anyone has CB them tbh) and the only reason i had this one was given from a friend (wouldn't take a plec that was below 2" either in most circumstances).
Thanks glad people liked the pics. The Queen is my personal favourite too.
-You're right Mr Parrot, there are so many it amazes me they are all originate from the amazon and linked systems. Catfish of the world... it would be impossible to see them all. |
