Well they don't need UV lighting as they're mostly nocturnal, but they should have some extra heat and quite high humidity.

Temp:90 (hot end) 80 (cool end).
Humidity: 65-80%

Hope this helps.

thanks paulk, would you just get the extra heat by placing a heat mat at one end of the tank?

Place one on the side of the vivarium, not the bottom. You get a more even temperature distribution for the inverts that way... just from experience.

It was on the web somewhere!!!! It came from an exotic pet shop, that only carried a certain named tube, and it banged on about how your scorp WILL die, if you dont use the brand they had named.
As for not knowing that UV light is also refered to as black light, well, Im SO VERY SORRY!!!!!!! Ive never read that, or been told it, you learn new things every day, eh?! Embarassed

Serpent, Iv just found another site, claiming that direct UV light is dangerous, and black light being safer, its on ExoticPets.co.uk its under the Emperor Scorp notes.
Have I read it wrong, or is it me being daft again?! Question Exclamation

I can find anything on exoticpets.co.uk apart from a urine test which is advertised as the best thing since sliced bread. Shocked

It also doesnt look the type of website where i would go to find information on different species of exotic pets.

For anyone to say that a scorpion NEEDS a light of ANY sort is totally WRONG.
Scorpions hate the light, when their cover is moved all they want to do is hide.
I have 23 very good scorpion sites in 'my favorites' and after a quick scan I cannot find uv lighting mention once.
( If you want them give me a PM Very Happy )

Direct UV light is sometimes used as a steriliser in outside ponds.

Lighting and UV lighting in particular is very very confusing and would need an expert to explain (of which i am not)

Read the FIRST line of this website http://johnbokma.com/pet/scorpion/detection-using-uv-leds.html

Read the 2nd paragraph of this site http://www.thaibugs.com/Articles/scorpion_facts.htm

If you are interested in finding out about UV and the best way to use it for reptiles then i suggest that you read this site .... http://www.uvguide.co.uk/whatisuv.htm
