Hi
Just got my 5 tier large contico box rack from www.winracks.com

Its very impressive, hope you like.
I can have another 5 tier built at a later date to fit on top so room for expansion. Initially it will have a pair of hognoses and a corn. My royals have all gone into ikea komplement boxes which leaves room in the bottom of my wood rack for any young snakes I produce. the incubator is only a temp thing.

Cool, What made you fork out the dough for that when I assume you use wooden racks anyway?

I wanted something light weight and portable and expandable.
Also it was one of 2 he had left over and let me have it at a good cash price. My main use is to free space on my wood rack for soon hatchling royals. Also over winter I had a power cut for 2 days. It was a nightmare moving stuff to my dads, this can be loaded up with royals in an emergency and easily taken to wherever.
I like my wood racks but these are brill. Bernard(winracks) is great to deal with, very helpful.
Also to help with costs I bought the heatmats off ebay £3 each, brand new, old style no plugs. there is still a load on there from tigerlilly.
I already had the conticos. just need to find a spare thermostat. or buy one. my only worry is expanding out of my alcove. If my wife does not like it I can easily move it into one of my lads room, its his cornsnake that is going in it or even the celler as a last resort. hopefully if i hide away the incubator she will think it is neat.

I have been looking at winracks, look well made and the prices for the small racks are reasonable. Just wondering how the heat mats or heat strips are fitted though as there are no 'shelves' as such to rest them on, if you know what I mean. Got any pics of the heating setup? It would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

hi
Basically it is a strip of fascia board which is fixed under the box. the heatstrip is then fixed to the board.
He recomends 17x6 heatstrips but you could use a 17x11.
personnally I have gone for the 17x6(in pic 17x11 not set up yet)
also there is plenty of room for a bit of poltstyrene to push the heat up if needed. The boxes sort of hover above the mat.
This is in my opinion good value for money. He did give me a discount for cash and delivered in person.
These are lids on and are perfect for the likes of myself with small but growing collection, I really like the idea I can have another one made that can go on top of the one I have got, doubling it without taking up anymore floorspace.. he can do practically anything you want.
I can understand why the lidless systems are more money. A lot more material and work is needed.
Any more Qs dont hesitate to ask.
hope helps
mike

hi
just to make it clear after reading what I wrote.
the shelves fix to the rack, the heatmats to the shelf and the boxes slide beutifully over the top. In pic only one is setup as have not got round to setting up yet. just admiring it, and wondering where to put all the junk thats in the conticos.

Superb, thanks for the pics mate. I really like the design. I too, have a (very) small but growing collection, and these look like they would be right up my street. Going to be focusing on my leopard geckos more, and that means new additions

I am not really too bothered about the sliding no lid systems, I can see they would save a lot of time with big collections though. Pulling the tubs out and putting them on a work unit to work on and feed the reps would suit me better, I like to see whats going on and spending time with the reps.

I was thinking about building a small rack, much like Scott's step by step guide he posted. The maneuverability, build quality and convenience of a ready made rack for the prices winrack sell at makes it harder for me to see why I would do this. It also saves sourcing the cheapest tubs and other kit needed too. I'm not usually lazy, in this case though I think it's the better option Laughing

Once again, thanks for the pics.
