Hiya all. just joined tonight.
My wee boy, `Houdini` is an Iguana and about 3 years old. He appears to be passing what looks like sawdust substance ! It looks like it`s seperate from his poo and I think it is with his pee, as it`s not mixed in with the poo. . It`s pure white and `bound` in a a gel like substance like very fine sawdust. consistancy of toothpaste. I am sure it`s not worms as I recently wormed him with `Panacur`, and the worms were flat, wriggling and clearly defined. I`m not even sure it would be eggs either, but not 100% sure what it is.....Anyone had similar with their iguana, or know what it definately is ? ? ...appreciate any help. Cheers !.....Gary.
( Confused P.S. It isn`t sawdust from substrate) Confused

Welcome to the forum, if you post on the 'General Lizards' forum you may get more responses.

What substrate are you keeping him on? At the moment it sounds just like urates (reptile excrete uric acid as a solid instead of a liquid, urine, to preserve water) but them being powdered may indicate slight dehydrations. Try giving him a tepid/warm bath and let him rehydrate as well as a good spray down in his vivarium.

Out of interest how long have you had him and is he captive bred?

Cheers for the very prompt reply Stroudster, and hello Stuart too. You may be correct in what you are saying about it being due to dehydration. `Houdini` is a rehomed iguana that I adopted in May of this year. He has a well equipped Viv and has his own play-room with lots of driftwood, bark, thick sissal rope to cross over from wall to wall, cammo netting to climb, sea grass, artificial plants,..which I planned and converted over a 6 month period, prior to adopting him. I am quite new to keeping reptiles and only by doing research and designing his room did I realise the responsibilities and essential requirements with an Iguana in particular. I thoroughly spray `Houdini` every night at our `cuddle time` before he goes back into the viv for the night. (he LOVES it). He has a `bath` in the viv and the water is tepid. he uses it for defacating/peeing. The room is always very warm but it`s dry heat and I can see him becoming dehydrated as his favourite basking branch is directly above the radiator, albeit right up at the ceiling. I will take up your advice stroudster and see if that helps with the problem....Cheers....Gary
