Hi, I have an amel corn snake that I have had for about 19 months and he has suddenly stopped eating. In the last month he has only eaten 1 mouse and that was reluctantly. I was told by the shop I bought it from, it is probably because of breeding season, and he has lost his appetite. He recommended trying other food. I tried this and he still refused. Will he have to be force fed? My other corn snake who is 3 months older is eating normally, which confuses me. I would appreciate any advice, Mark

Temperatures are perfect, use thermostat to heat my viv. Also feed my corns outside of viv in any case. Mark.

None of my males are eating atm, its well into the breeding season so i am not surprised, is you male of breeding age? im guessing so with you saying you have had him 19 months, the 3 month old wont be in breeding mode to young, so dont be worried about the fact ones eating and ones not. As long as he is looking healthy not losing too much weight and his stool (if you are getting any) look good do not worry too much but if you are concerned then give you vet a bell and ask for some advice. if you want to try him again wait a while and let him calm down or wait until you see him actively hunting. If he is losing weight drematically or looks toblerone shaped then i would advise a vet visit as somethign is wrong, but fasting this time of year is natural for male corns (not all but some) and they soon start feeding on their own once its out of their system.

He could well be refusing because of breeding season, I have one that's refusing atm but others are not.

Having you tried teasing, holding the mouse on a pair of tongs and wiggling or offering a much smaller mouse?

I have a young male that's 1 and a bit years old that's currently off his food as well. How long does breeding season last and when should we try feeding them again? Confused

I have a young amel female, turning 1yr this month, who stopped eating about a months ago as well.
Might it be a 'thing' with the amels?
I must admit her sister, also amel, is a pigging machine.
