I just bought some wax worms....... just for Spud to try 'em!
I put one in the viv and he kinda looked curiously at it for a while and stuck his nose on it.. Rolling Eyes Confused and then it crawled over him and aggitated him n he flinched quite a bit..

Is he okay to eat them? Do they need to be the size of the distance between his eyes or is it okay if theyr a lil bigger? And can they hurt him in anyway? Confused Thanks x

They are a bit fatty so just as a treat they are fine. Some won't take to them because they don't move very much. Mine doesn't seem to care.

I just got mine some on Saturday, yet the lizards don't seem very interested in them, we even hold the wax worms in front of their faces and they flinch! Confused

Thanks for the replies!
Well he has certainly noticed it but I'm not sure he's interested at the moment coz he's just finished shedding.. When it crawled over him, he kinda dipped his body down on the bit that it had gone over... like it was so heavy it had squished him Shocked I was getting a lil concerned lol

I remember reading that they're to be given as a treat.. but how often is a treat? Once a week? Every 2 weeks?
I also don't know how to look after waxxies either? lol
.....How long does it take for them to change to moths?? Shocked Shocked Shocked

We were told to give as a treat once every day or other day, and all we do is keep them in the tub we were given them in (quite small, filled with sawdust), and put flour in every now and then.
Though I'm not sure on when they turn into moths

I know everyone say about how fatty waxworms are but I don't really agree, I just can't see how a grub that has been put in a tub with wood shavings and not fed for weeks will have any goodness in them at all, let a lone fat Shocked Question

I know that decent waxworms that are sold in the honey/flour diet certainly will have high fat levels and perhaps should be offered at a max of 20% of the diet but I don't know of ANY shops that still sell in the old fashioned way (shame...far, far better product!)

As for turning to moths, just leave them, most will die but a few will turn to moths over time (I believe they are treated in some way to slow down pupation into moths Sad )

None of my Cresteds will eat the worms but they go crackers for the moths. I think it's a good form of excercise for them - they certainly have to make good use of their prehensile tails. Very Happy

Don't the moths just.. fly away? Shocked lol I mean out the viv when you open it..? I'd quite like to see Spud chasing moths lol

Do I feed the waxxies just flour? Honey? lol ...Shame they're not very nutritional.
