Hello folks,
For the past month or so I have been trying to get my leopard geckos to breed. The females are not receptive though, and I'm not sure why.
I am trying pairings with 2 of my 3 year old (never bred before, normals) females, and a new male who is roughly 10 months (also never bred before, hypo tangerine)
Each time I introduce 1 of the females into the males enclosure. Immediately the male becomes excited, starts the usual tail flicks and quickly starts the nipping and moves into mating position. After a few nips though, the female will quickly qive him a good bite, and shake him off, total rejection.
Now, is this because the male is too young, or something to do with the females? I would have thought if he was too young though, he would not even attempt to breed
When I bred leopard geckos a good few years ago now, I used the same technique of inroducing the females into male territory and never had a problem. The females I have at the moment were slightly cooled over winter, heat mat was on for ~10 hours now increased to 14 hours. Also photoperiod/ambient air temp was in sync as the room is lit by natural daylight..
I have an older more experienced female I could try with him, but at over ten years old now her breeding days are behind her really, so I would not want to cause any unnecessary fatigue.
Just wondering if any of you know what the main reason for the lack of receptiveness may be,
Cheers, _________________ Steve P |

Place the male in the females enclosure and leave them alone for a week, bet they get it on then

I had the same problem recently, I just kept on introducing them until the female decided she was up for it _________________ Kind Regards,
