hi
I'm new to the forum. I decided to join because I value the opinions of fellow enthusiasts.
I've been keeping these(bar necks) for a couple of years now and found that they love perching. I recently aquired a new sub adult, and put him in his new viv. I looked at him today and saw that some skin had come off his nose, and there is discolouration on a couple of his scales. I believe this is down to him rubbing his nose on the branches closer to the ground. I have obviously removed them, along with the perching branch
I also observed that he seemed scared of the perch, and beleive he hasn't perched before.
Since he doesn't seem to enjoy perching, I'm thinking of leaving out the perch altogethor, or using a PVC pipe, incase he ever decides to give it a go, what do you think? |

Pete, due to the time of your response i'll go with "sleep induced typo"
KARL aka "snakesalive" ( ), "SteveC" and myself all have babies from the same clutch on this forum.
I don't think that the perches were the problem, he sounds to have been searching for something else. I would put the perches back in and look elsewhere for the problem. It could be a whole list of things but can probably be put down to settling in i think. _________________ TFA

I have replaced the perches with a smoother textured wood, instead of PVC pipe, and hope this will prevent any more skin from coming off.
P.S how do you peepz keep your scrubs? I find, through experience, they do best in high humidity, with quite high temps. I also have a short "dry spell" every now and again, and mine usually thrive like this.
Thanks for the replies |

Mine is too small for a proper viv as yet so it is living as what could be described as a glass coffin (LOL) . There are no perches in there but it does like to sit on top of its hide a lot.
The adult colony this one came from pretty much all use perches, they are a highly arborial species so i intend to follow this through when mine is bigger.
Temps wise, it is pretty high in the hot end and the humidity is kept high aswell. _________________ TFA

Your husbandry techniques are quite similar to mine Dan. I know someone who does well with moderate temps and high humidity. My adult female loves to perch, as did my previous adult male (which passed away last year )
This one doesn't seem too fond of perching, but loves hiding under the kitchen towel (like a jcp). |
