LOL!!! Oh my.... !!!!!
A few years back I got an "oops" phone call.
We had caught a few puff adders that week and housed them at the snake park where I worked. Almost simultaneously they gave birth and we had about 200 unhoused puff adders. I offered to put them in the racks at home until they feed and then we can release them. Now a mate of mine was working at a local game farm, and he shared this place with me because his dog was not allowed on the farm. This dog loved playing with a tennis ball. He accidently threw the ball on to the racks, and the dog clambered up to get the ball, and ended up pulling the whole rack system down.
ring riiiiiiiing! "oops"
I went home as fast as I could, and ended up catching about 20 of the babies. Leaving another 180 somewhere in the house.
I went to sleep each night with my boots on, and a hookstick where a girl should've been.
In the mornings you first pick up the carpeting, and make sure you are wide awake before going to the toilet _________________ ngiyakuthanda Sonvanger |

I never thought of that, to be honest
I just figured "its my house and my bed, and no &%^$$ puff adders will remove me from it!!"
Coming to think of it, it must be some kind of record. Living in a house with 180 venomous snakes. Pity it was never official, huh? _________________ ngiyakuthanda Sonvanger |

As always Arietans, great stories
I'd be interested in hearing exactly how you got bit by your Puff Adder and what the effects were if you don't mind me asking? _________________ You can't trust the snake......but you can always trust the snake to be a snake. |

No worries.
This particular puff was as sedate as a doorstop, simply because he was used to being handled etc. He was a milking snake at a park where I used to work.
Complacency set in.
One morning I took him out for some cage maintenance, and put him on the shelf next to the cage. He responded to that by biting me on the inner thigh.
To describe the pain as excrutiating is a vast understatement.
Its like sticking your hands into boiling oil.
The onset of effects happened at a geometric rate. Blisters etc. formed very quickly, and the necrosis happened fairly quickly. I received 13 vials of AV and a lot of anti-histamines.
I spent two weeks in hospital, and had two reconstructive surgeries on my thigh to fix the tissue damage.
6 months later I could walk properly again.
I have a nice scar on my inner thigh as a lasting reminder _________________ ngiyakuthanda Sonvanger |

Thanks arietans.
I think I'm going to print that off and stick it on the wall in my snake room. _________________ You can't trust the snake......but you can always trust the snake to be a snake. |
