Just hatched this wierd Varanus kordensis. Usually bright green this one appears to be lacking the green. Any ideas on what you might call that trait?

No idea Peter, certainly looks strange. Were all other hatchlings from the clutch otherwise normal?? Will be interesting to see how it turns out...especially if it keeps that patternation. Have kordensis been promoted to species status or are they still a prasinus subspecies? Cool

i think some specimens when captives for extended period and other captive bred animals loose the yellow pigment in their colour, and so turns them a more aquamarine/turquoise colour. Happens with these and V. prasinus. I don't know if that is what this particular is exhibiting. Beautiful little guy though.

This Kordensis has just hatched although I do agree that prasinus in captivity after time are less green than their wild or outside maintained counterparts.
It will be interesting to see if this one changes in the coming Months.
None of the other eggs in the clutch hatched although we do have Mum to work with if the colour stays the same then we can investigate if its some genetic trait.
