Thank you Sally.
How is young Sidney doing? I hope he is well as I am sure he is, I know how dedicated to him you are from following his progress via your emails since collecting him from me a couple of weeks ago.
All credit to you to, you took your time, I know we had been discussing the merits of a Veiled Yemen Chameleon since January.
Sally and I were often up till the wee late hours exchanging pm,s back and forth between us we could have written a book!
Every detail was sorted right down to the last piece of equipment required, every aspect of care was discussed and Sally put in 150% effort in getting it 100% right. Sorry if I am embarrassing you Sally but credit where it's due!
Thanks to Sallys efforts in ensuring everything was correct Sidney (cham) has an ideal home and a truly dedicated keeper!
Butch Licks, OK so it got heated the other night, no point in opening up old wounds, time to move on, all credit to you on wanting to get it right. I offer my apologies also for losing the plot a tad the other night, that is the first time I have ever done that on any forum.
Please trust me, there are some great people on this forum without a doubt, there are also a lot of people with top knowledge on chameleons on this forum who far outweigh any knowledge that I may have, your in safe hands here!
No reflection on you, but I think your pet shop needs a big kick up the arse mate. As Jackie stated their behaviour is irresponsible and abhorrent. If they cant get it right then how on earth can they pass the correct information on to the new hobbyist? They trade in animals, they have a responsibility and duty to ensure they have expert knowledge regarding every animal they sell in my opinion! Instead they seem to trade in misery! A strong statement but I make no apologies for that as this is how it makes me feel and how I see it, I would also add I would be more than happy to discuss these matters directly with the pet shop owner.
To end on a positive note good luck to you and your cham Butch.
Also all the best to Sally to.

id like to take this opportunity to say thanx to rickeezee and sally (and everyone else that have given me advice) i know i didn't do a hell of alot of research into the care of chameleons i mean i did do some don't get me wrong it's just when i first thought about getting one i thought it wouldn't be a hell of alot more difficult to look after than gecko's (i know that may sound irresponsible of me but believe me it wasn't as bad as it may sound) i already knew that they were climbers before i got one and i also knew that they needed a UV light otherwise their bone develop hollow the only reason my set up isn't on it's end is because she is only a baby and as she get a bit bigger and bigger I'm going to put the Viv on it's end and then soon enough get hopefully a 3x3x5(5@height) Viv because then she got plenty of room to roam around in...........
can anyone tell me where the best place to look for a (preferably cheap) Viv that sort of size would be and the best way to keep it warm
also can anyone tell me what is the best way of getting the temp up in the Viv i have at the mo because it wont go much if at all higher than 75f and i know that isn't quite hot enough please and thank you all for your help support and advice once again............. _________________ my imaginary freind says your crazy |

I would suggest buying a basking spot lamp with a reflector, 100watts should do it then u can use the same bulb once you get a bigger viv.
Highly importnat if you can to buy also a Habistat dimming therrmostat, the bulb is plugged into this set up and then a heat sensing probe from the thermostat is placed in the viv at the basking spot, basking spot should be approx 10 - 12 inches from the bulb to prevent burns, set the thermostat temp to 90F at the basking spot, keep the basking spot to one corner of the viv so that the surrounding tempreture is lower (ambient temp), the cham will thermoregulate, ie, will move around to find the temp that suits it best, they love to bask especially first thing in the am, and after they have eaten this helps them to assimilate food they have eaten and to synthesise their own calcium production, I wish I had kept all the notes I sent to Sally cause they were very indepth and probalby totaled 15 pages COVERING EVERY ASPECT YOU COULD THINK OF IN SETTING UP VIV, FEEDING ETC ETC ETC. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

fORGOT TO SAY 9OF is ok for a big issh viv but may be too much if the viv is small as the bulb will end heating all of the viv if small, babies can have a slightly lower temp say 85F MAIN THING IS THOUGH TO PROVIDE AT LEAST ONE AREA WHERE THE TMEP DOES REACH 90F AND ACHIVE AN AMBIENT TEMP 10 -15F LOWER AT THE FURTHEST END OF THE VIV AWAY FROM THE HEAT SOURCE

Forgot to answer youy q about vivs, adequate ventilation is a key requirement for chams especialy Yemens. There are a wide variety of various priced vivs on the market.
Mesh vivs as in Terry Thatchers are good
http://crislis.co.uk/thatcher/repcage/repcage.htm
Flexauriums are ok to all depends upon what u want to spend
http://www.cornishcrispa.com/catalog/
Vivtronics do a cham viv in the ready built section
http://www.vivtronic.co.uk/
These links will give a you a rough idea of the main types of suitable vivs, or build on if your into DIY. yOU MAY NEED TO SEARCH THE LINKS A BIT TO FIND WHAT U WANT. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Ficus, umbrella and pothos are all good safe plants. I use a zoomed little dripper to provide continous water supply cost about a fiver, let it drip into plant pots. I cover top of plant pots with moss that I keep damp to increase humidity levels. I spary mist the viv twice -per day. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
