I think by nature they are inclined to a be a tad on the aggressive side for sure.
Maybe that interaction from a young age may well work? Hard to say for sure. My group of Yemens tollerate me and all hand feed and don't get spooked when I put my hand in the viv. If I am real slow they will let me stroke them under their chins. This all has to be on their terms though. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Mine's just like that - he actually eats more if I hand feed him the lazy chap! But, I don't think that's the level of friendliness that Jan was hoping for - I've no experience of Panthers but most people say they are happy to be handled. If I ever have to get Ninja out of the viv it's a complete song and a dance - LOTS of puffing, hissing and attempts to bite! He's so cute. Still, every animal is different and I don't know what her current Yemen is like -perhaps he huffs if you so much as look at him?!
Any more photos to be had? |

Hi, Loki my Yemens is as described a Grumpy Old Git. He hates anything in his viv moved or changed, he hates clean out times, filling the feed dish times, taking out dead plants times in fact he hates just about everything but reserves his own special brand of hate for me!!! This isnt really a problem as I love him for the grouchy swine he is but I do wonder to this day if I had got him from a baby say 5-8 weeks old and shown him that my hands are designed to bring him nice things like food and NOT to hurt or harm in any way- if his very nature would have been different. I gather Loki wasn't handled too much and in fact I think the only time a human ever went near him was to chuck food in the cage.My Panther on the other hand was people friendly from day 1. I know the owner of Lokis clutch brother and hes the same temprement as Loki. His nature isnt a problem I dont handle him and respect the fact he wants to be left alone and not messed about in any way- so thats what I do. He puffs up and makes noises like a hissing snake- all part of his charm !

I have had my male for a year now and I must say he is very laid back he even lets me take him out of his viv now and again he just sits on my shoulder and looks smug.
The female on the other hand has constant P.M.S. she tries to bite me when I feed her then has the cheek to take the insect out of my hand WOMEN !!! . _________________ 3 bearded dragons.

Ah, don't you just love Yemens! Jan, your Loki (great name by the way!) does sound a bit more grumpy than my boy. I think he's good at the moment because he's eating - he stopped a while a go for about a month but has recently been a complete pig. Actually he was showing off his fat belly last night, resting it on a branch! I keep him full though just in case he pulls another long fast. Oh the worry! |

Well I'm in for fun and games as I have to decide if its worth moving Loki into a brand new viv . I'd love him to have a smart new custom made cage, however apart from the nightmare of actually having to catch him up I will have the week long sulk and hunger strike to contend with. So is it worth it- I think not. He is far more nasty than most, hes got a nasty face! I cant get pics because as soon as he sees me approaching with the camera he's off. If I am totally 100% truthfull hes quite horrible really. Yet, despite his many faults I really quite like his attitude, this total contempt for all things human and the constant " SOD OFF YOU " expression he wears. Theres no reasons hes like this- enviroment wise I mean, hes in a great set up and has no stress or anything nearby to cause stress. When I first got him he was dark and thin so a I had a fecal sample done at the vets- just incase Everything health wise is fine. Hes just the way he is and I wouldnt swap him for the world.
