This is a good thread, helpful to really get to the 'nitty-gritty' of breeding Bees. Question please. I know that in the case of Pieds, a low white Pied is more or less as likely as a high white Pied to produce high white off-spring. Does that principle apply to Pastels ? Would a poor looking Lemon Pastel from a good line still produce nice babies, or in the Pastels case would the poor quality always be passed on ?

I say no!

This is a touchy subject and I'm trying to tread softly. Laughing

I started breeding Pastels early on when they were the only co doms availible. those early B--- line Pastels were dark ugly creatures. but every now and then a decent one would pop out and that was held back for breeding and the results were a little better.

Soon after, some of the other lines were being developed and the results were still improving. and whats available today has come along way with alot of work by so many breeders.

So I say that the better you start with, the better you will get. Smile

So are we Talking NERD and Graziani here then for the best options? Which one browns out the least?

It's impossible to say which is actually best, I've seen stunning examples of both and also naff examples of both.

I prefer the graziani's as I love the blushing on them but as Ed say's it's all about choosing GOOD animals in the first place Wink

first of i have to say that honey bee is amazing thanks for posting the pic. As for best pastels to produce bees has anyone tried getting another pastel combo like the fire pastel and then use that to see if you get really nice pastels. i suppose a POG would be a good choice aswell Smile
