I use ceramics for all my snakes including corns and attain correct temperatures at all times.
Ceramics heat everything in the viv including the air and the snakes and belly heat is not required.

When i used to keep corns i would always have the heatmat inside the viv.Making sure it was well stuck down with double sided tape and then some tape over the whole mat so that nothing could get into it.It would then be on a mat stat and i would also use a gaurded spot light to raise the hotspot during the day.Always above the mat.I would also usually place a fairly large stone under the spotlight so that this heated up during the course of the day.I have done the same thin in the past with smaller boas and burms and found it worked well.I found that doing it this way even a 4 foot viv would not need a ceramic heater as long as the room it was placed in didnt drop below 65 degrees over night.I have also never used uv lights in with my snakes as i feel there is no need for it.

thats what i do with my mats greenphase. but i only use mats. also i have discovered i must have caught the dial on the royals stat when i stepped off stool. i need stool to get to top shelf on my rack, and when i stepped off i must have caught the knob with my foot or trousers.
i make sure they are well covered so no water can get to them.

Yea thats it Lynne.I know they say that the mats are safe to use as they are but for me better safe than sorry. Its easy to catch the dial on the stats and i check all of mine regularly as i have a cat that sleeps in my reptile room and she has changed the settings on stats before now.I swear she goes round all the stats she can reach and turns them all up to max on purpose as at one stage it6 was happening about twice a week Laughing

how can a snake decide not to thermoregulate?? if i stuck my hand on my boas pad for days i know what would happen id have a hand thats exactly 94of /- 0.5of i dont think u know what ur on about.

So there has obviously never been any snakes that have cooked themselves on mats by not moving off them then eh?

The fact there is countless threads and pictures on the net stating so, usually in heavy bodied snakes like boas and royals.

If you leave your hand on a mat non stop for days you would burn your hand, the constant heat would deteriorate the skin until it started to burn.

I think you need to think about why your posting things before you post and you and your mrs need to look at your own husbandry before commenting on other peoples.

Feel free to take it to PM if you wish Wink

Unfortunately, I have to agree here with the above post.
Your hand will get hotter than the pad, for the very fact the heat is continuous.

However, there is not much you can do other than a stat and mat other than heat panels, so no point arguing about it?

Lynne, I have all my stats inside the vivs and to prevent the setting from being disturbed accidentally, I use a bit of Blutack.

aye my probes are in vivs on mats. but i have the actual stat stuck to the outside. the wee royal was in a tub, and his stat is stuck on the leg of the rack. but its a stat with a knob instead of the ones you need screwdriver for. human error am afraid. wont happen again though. will triple check everything from now on.
