Been quite busy past week or so but looking to get my reptiles in there soon.
I'm just a bit stuck regarding what heater would be best and timing schedule of viv heaters / additional heater. I'm really not sure what the most efficient and cost effective way of doing it would be
I think a small oil filled radiator would be best, whether or not I have it on 24/7 though is another thing. I am thinking heater on 24/7 to help with the ambient temp, with heatmats on 12 hours during day to give a drop in temps at night? Don't have a clue _________________ Steve P |

Right, after a bit of reading on various forums etc it seems pretty well agreed that oil filled radiators are the best option for heating small rep rooms/sheds. So, I popped down to argos this evening and picked up this:
http://www.delonghi.co.uk/product_page.php?id=101&key=Oil%20Filled%20Radiators
I went for the lowest power possible as I am only heating quite a small shed. Anyway, after setting up and plugging in the radiator, after about an hour the air temp of the whole shed rose from 59f - 72f, to maintain this temp (70-72f) the thermostat dial would only need to be turned to just over the halfway setting too, superb.
Can I just ask anyone who uses oil filled radiators in their rep rooms/sheds this: How do you coordinate the radiators with your vivarium heaters such as heatmats etc? How long do you have your radiators on for per day, and when?
Hopefully the thing won't be too expensive to run!
Thanks for putting up with my questions _________________ Steve P |

After a few days messing around with heating, today I moved in the leopard geckos. I am made up . I don't think the heater will be too much to run, once it has heated up to around 72f it stays off for a good while before it needs to heat for a short period again to keep the temp from dropping. The rack is on a 12 hour on off timer atm as well as the light just to give a sense of photoperiod so I can control winter resting etc
Pics are a bit over exposed but oh well. Only got 1 male and 3 females in at the moment, will be looking to buy a good few more soon :]
