I would hand over the cash for a micro chipped and linked snake before a certificate linked snake every time, but I would trust in the breeder only if I knew them personally and actually trusted them before buying anything else, anyone else, show me some proof _________________ MORE THAN 2! |

I personally think the best way to find a good breeder is through word of mouth and referral. And Smallpaul was right about everybody has to start somewhere, so there isn't always pieces of paper available. I also own some of Mr Mandics Hets, and very nice they are to, and I found Scott W via a referral, and I have to say apart from him now having more of my bank account than I do, I'm MORE than happy
So in conclusion, yes I would rather buy a snake from someone with a good reputation, than from someone with a piece of paper. You'd be shocked at how easy it is to forg certain documents _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

I have been selling my surplus stock for the last few years and consider myself still to be a hobbyist. I have never provided paperwork for my animals. It is time consuming and if like me you run a separate business as well, time is very expensive.
I think commercial breeders need to provide paperwork for proof of I.D for customers etc. But at the end of the day it is still only a piece of paper with the breeders name on it. Reputation is everything, because the reptile community is relatively small, it does not take long for the word to get round about a dodgy breeder/supplier.
If you bought an animal from a breeder that did not prove out I would like to see you do something about it a couple of years later, especially one from another country. |

I dont think it's time consuming, all you need to do is take a photo, put it on an excel sheet, and print it off, sign it. job done |

getting that peice of paper is a bonous but i think what is more inportant that when looking for a particular snake going to the sellers house to veiw, for me is more important.
This gives me a insight to there animals, and there address should i need to go visiting again |

is there a kennel club equivalent for snakes ?
if not then anybody could make up there own certificates and say what they liked on them .
i would say that word of mouth and reputation would go before a peice of paper .
but if it made a buyer more happy then i dont see a problem in making a certificate up . if the seller isnt too keen then it might be because they have something to hide _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

I understand why some people ask for paper work, trust is very important. If I'm asked to give paperwork it's more in the form of a receipt. _________________ www.unusualalbinosnakes.com |

I bought my het albino male from CPR, I got paperwork/photo I.D saying it 100% het for albino, which I keep safe, it's nice to have.
I bought my 50% het female on trust without paper work, I knew of the person I bought from, and just felt I could trust Him.
3 baby albinos later and both paperwork and gut feeling paid off
BUT I only paid a tad under £300 for the pair, so no problem if had not produced any albino's.
If I was paying for e.g. £850 for a het pair of pieds, I would either
a: want paper work
b: Buy off someone like scott or CPR that I know can trust 100%
My twopence worth
All the best to all

I can vouch for Scott as well, pleasure to deal with, and he puts up with me, so can't be a bad chap
I haven't test driven my Hets yet, but I know where he lives
Seriously though, I'm happy to buy through or from Scott as he came to me via referral, and I haven't been dissapointed yet, and somehow I don't think I will be in future My local reptile shop I would also trust implicitly (spelling?) they haven't let me down yet. _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
