Always good to learn soething new
Back on topic, ish, has anyone got any experience with heat cable? I'm planning on using it when I build the incubator from hell in the new year, thankfully I have an electrician on hand who's brain I can pick! _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

I have actually got a spare faunarium like that.
Dont think I will use it. . . |

The leo used to be in it while he was younger. _________________ Regards, Paul.

I would be inclined to use a ceramic or tubular heater (both Guarded of course) or a heat cable and a pulse proportional thermostat. You would do well to invest in hand held digital thermometer, the better ones also have a laser, so it is just a case of aiming the laser at a particular area of the enclosure and you will get an instant temp reading, these are extremely accurate.
Apologies for waffling.

a stat must be used with any heating implement imo. |

yes you did. sorry had to think. i use stats on all my mats, and the cable even although its not that hot, all my stats have temperature adjusters, and the heat is accurately controlled. i check it with an infra red temp gun.
i wouldnt say my pulse stats are any better or any worse than the others. _________________

The Calibration is going to be a bitch I think!!
Quote: | an electrician with a brain?..not having that! | I haveto admit it's pretty rare, but luckily for me this one is my father-in-law and really knows his stuff, unfortunately for me, he likes to try and expalin everything to me, and my brain tends to melt after about the first 30 seconds or so. I usually only want to know can I do it, and is it safe _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
