yep, just as i thought she was there. i went to open the viv and i'm 90% sure she would strike, its as if she's waiting for ambush and still in feeding mode even though i fed her 48 hours ago (hence digestion period over and ok to handle). she shows lots of interest in my hand! i might put on a glove and see what happens Confused
any ideas why she would do this, never done it before. what u think?
heres the pic...

Just pick her up.... If she bites its not that bad.

She will sense you are nervous, dont worry.

If the hide is directly under/over the hot spot it may be too warm. The heat inside the hide will be warmer than outside (especially if a heat mat is being used as a heat source) She may have found the correct temperature being halfway in and halfway outside the hide. My snakes have a hide which is placed halfway on the mat and half off, I find after a feed they tend to move more between the hot and cooler sides.

its not the bite that bothers me its just that i just want her to have the clean track record of never striking Very Happy
there are two hides but she hasn't been using the cool side hide. have you ever experienced this or have any other ideas why this behaviour has occured?

thanks...

First thing that I would do is to offer her another meal. She may just be ready to go to a larger size meal, and is still hungry. Worth a try.

yeah i think thats the case. i have been waiting for the last of the mouse hoppers to go and now she will be on the next size up. I got her out earlier and soon realised i was friend not foe Laughing
i won't feed another cos i have bigger food now and one now will propper stuff her!

I have just bought an infrared thermometer to double check my normal digital one.
i use barely a layer of t-rex coco chunk substrate for aesthetics in the viv (pic above) with a habistat mat underneath the substrate (inside viv) controlled by thermostat (obviousely) and have just noticed that with the probe on the heat mat, temps are (in faranheit) 88 ontop of substrate, as soon as i uncover the heat mat and take a reading it is 100 and once its been uncovered a minute it reads 93.
i am not sure what to do as the snake pushes the substrate out the way every time so i guess i should set it so when uncovered it is about 92 as to ensure a safe level at all times right?
and besides they mainly use it for digestion so 92 will be ok wont it?

btw i will soon be using a protected exo-terra clamp lamp with 100w infrared bulb or possibly a CHE controlled by habistat dimming thermostat to heat the cool side day and night as she has a cold room.
most places say this wont interrupt day/night cycles, not that i've noticed one with her but what do i know.

can anyone clarify my little problem?
all comments are much appreciated, thanks, Mike...

You are picking problems when there doesnt seem to be any.

Dont worry about it too much.
Just use you sense and you wont go far wrong.
You seem to have it sussed.

Sit back and enjoy her. Cool

very reassuring, thanks.
i just a bit concerned about the lamp being on 24 - 7 but i think i'll stick that on a timer 12 on 12 off, but will the minute or so when the heat mat is at 100f be a problem?

thanks.

If keeping the lamp on is the only way to maintain your temps then leave it on Wink It really won't affect the snake so longs as there are hides etc in the viv.

A 100f heat pad is too hot Wink
