I have a Varanus Gilleni, Gillen's Dwarf Monitor. Now that is rare in the UK for certain. He was part of a pair and the female died of egg-binding. Haven't had chance to pair him up from Europe.

He is for sale if anyone is willing to pair him up.

I owned a black throat monitor years back- a beautiful little hatchling and a true black throat. Unfortunately he died of Salmonella and I was not best pleased. Seems he had it when they shipped them over.

One of the nicest monitors I ever owned was a Mangrove Monitor, Varanus Indicus. Now she was very nice indeed, used to love swimming in her pool and would stay submerged for ages. A truly beautiful and delightful animal.

I have to say I have never seen anything like Telenestes being offered and certainly never in the UK, maybe you can get them in Europe? Mind you I haven't heard of Rosenbergi being offered either but I am sure they are out there.

I can well believe Perenties would fetch 25k in UK and Europe. It is all about supply and demand.

10 years from now they will probably be a tenth of that, seems the way of things.

Cheers

I've seen a couple in the flesh at zoos etc, and they really are stunning.

Shocked

Yes they really are impressive creatures. I went away from the giant monitors though. Too much space required and just don't have the time to look after them. This is where I am really glad dwarf monitors are available.

If you are going to get one of those cleaning up after them has to be a full time job I think. My best friend has albino reticulated pythons and is attempting to breed them. He has to set aside a lot of time to clean those beasts and boy do they smell when they go.

They're around here cheap enough, I was offered a couple the other day for $2500, but unfortunately I cant see Victoria's laws changing in my favour any time in the forseeable future :cry:Our herp laws seem based around a pretty simple concept: the more spectacular it is, the less likely it is that we'll be allowed to keep it! Then again, we're 50% of the people allowed to keep crocs!

Yes it must be great to live in a country where these things can be viewed in their native habitat.

Here the most exciting thing we are not allowed to keep is a Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) or the Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca).

Mind you both are very attractive and impressive in their own, albeit be it diminutive, way.

As I said, wait a couple of years and they'll be down to the price of lacies. I can get perenties for $2500 (or even less), too, but that's still very pricey compared to $500 for lacies.
