Hi Budda
The eggs are about the same size as Crested eggs (perhaps slightly larger). I'll take some photos of them so you can see. I have the incubator set at around 79oF and is so far keeping at that constant temperature. Hopefully that temperature should produce a male/female ratio. I too use a home made incubator - just as good as the shop bought ones in my opinion...lol.
Some more photos of my aurics:
Rain (female) - the photo doesn't show her best colours - when fired up she's a salmon colour
Star (female)
Zeus (male)
Moon (unsexed but looking female) when I first got her
And now six months later
All but one of my aurics I have since they were babies and that's the most dramatic colour change I've seen in them.

Well i woke up this morning, checked the egg laying box and there was two eggs buried and covered up perfectly (i could only see there was eggs by looking through the see through bottom. She had covered the hole and flattened the surface so that you couldn't tell she had laid any eggs. Just waiting for my other female to lay now. _________________ Play Hard |

Thank you, its just the long wait until hatching now. Should have another gargoyle laying very soon and a cresty as well. Just sold my friend a baby gargoyle and she loves it (it is a cute one though) and its always active.
Lets see whose eggs hatch first then jackie, my incubator is at a constant 79.5F at the moment.
A question to everyone - What medium do you use for incubating your eggs? And what has the most sucsess (for Rhac's that is) Think i may do a test this year using 3 different mediums and see which has the best rate.
Oh, what humidity does the egg box in the incubator need to have? _________________ Play Hard |

Ok this is bit of a learning curve for me. To date I've had one auriculatus hatch. This is out of 9 fertile eggs. All 8 babies died as they were due to hatch (I have photos of a pair of dead babies but I won't post them as I don't want to upset anyone - they were absolutely perfect just not breathing). To say I was devastated was an understatement. I discussed this with a European breeder who has successfully hatched many aurics. Initially he had the same problem as me and found that incubation medium was the problem.
I was using vermiculite, which I've used for many years with different reptile eggs (including cresteds with a 100% hatch success rate), and it was made up in the same way. The breeder advised me to switch to perlite, which I did and the result was my first hatchling. He discovered that vermiculite absorbs too much water and when the babies were trying to hatch, they drowned (obviously it's an exhausting time for them).
I'm not counting my aurics until they have hatched ( ) so I'll wait for however long it takes, if one hatches I'll be chuffed to pieces. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

Well i think i am going to incubate some on vercimulite (spelling) some on perlite and some on coco fibre, to see what the best result is. The nac is perfecting your style then sharing tried and tested methods with other rhac lovers
Would be nice to hear from scott on this one. _________________ Play Hard |

A very successful breeder of leopard geckos (he uses Livefoods and is very well known ), had the same problem. His auriculatus eggs weren't hatching when using vermiculite either. He switched to perlite and had at least two hatch last year (I think he had more than that hatch but I can't remember). He was using room incubation. Just something for you bear in mind. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

Forgot to add, I've never had a problem hatching Cresteds when using vermiculite. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie
