Pete how are the locusts doing? Have found a simple way of keeping the egg laying tubs from drying out that are in with the adults, just raise them off the floor of the tank on a bit of egg box. Less direct heat transfer from the heat mats under the tanks.
Dunno why I did not think of this b4, what a div!

Rick, how often do you exchange the egg pots? I put a new egg pot in every two days. _________________

Every 3 days Scott. I store a tub of peat in my rep room but it dries out and is then hard to moisten up b4 transfering to egg tubs etc. water just floats on top. then seeps to bottom without saturating the rest of the peat. Spose I should keep in the garage.

Can't you put a lid on the tubs that aren't in use? or cover with cling film? _________________

I have noticed when locusts lay their eggs there is a bubbly moist substance laid with the eggs. Is this to prevent them drying out?

I think it acts as a tunnel filler, stops substrate blocking the tunnel, makes it easier for them to crawl out thru rather than trying to dig out thru compacted ground. _________________

Interesting stuff. Mine are doing fine. I am bed ridden with the flu at the minute though! Hope it isn`t Swansea bird flu! _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
