I know that it's not put in properly when the snake can burn themselves on the mat's but still. my point is more that it is not absolutely necessary to use a mat! also the temperature is debatable coz I'm not that precise with it like most of you are and still they are all doing really well and breeding, so that's why I don't understand that you would say to someone that starts with his forst animal that the viv has to have a heatmat |
and it could be that you have just been lucky i suppose. _________________

TBH I wouldnt go any other way than a heat mat for a main heat source as it sounds much simpler. I've gave exoticsandtropics a msg after I seen his sig so hopefully he'll be able to help me out with a good kit |

one thing to consider is the size of the viv cos, in say a 4ft viv a heat mat will not be able to reach the ambiant tempertures
I perfer to use a ceramic setup, like this
Total cost of cable, holder, lamp, and gaurd approx £25 |

Josh I am delighted for you What did you do, promise to clean the car for 6 months... ? Do not panic about setting up the viv., you have plenty of time to play around and get it just right. Have fun.

woodage wrote: | Josh. BEFORE you think of getting a ball python you have to understand its needs. Underfloor heating is great in a house but if you were living in the sort of temps a BP needs the the whole family would be in their undewear! Pythons need at least 80 degrees at the COOL end. I run my rack at 92 at the hot end. My whole snake room is at 82 degrees. Its HOT in there!! My house is around 65 degrees. I know lessers and mojos are exiting, as is the whole ball python hobby but its really important to set up your snakes environment correctly and understand your snakes needs BEFORE you buy one. Ball pyhons are pretty and fun. An expensive animal that won't feed because it has a respiratory infection is not. |
