Makes sense... I didn't really think of that. I got into balls (no pun intended ) because they are challenging & beautiful animals which I am able to provide a good environment for, breeding is just part of the process that I would like to learn more about & explore for myself. If I do breed one day and am able to make some wonga from it... then that's great.. cos I'll just buy one of those amazing Lavender Albino's! _________________ Graphic design genius (print & web)

i personally would not think off breeding the females untill they hit the 2000gram mark. iv seen pictures of females under that, after having laid eggs. it really does take it out off them. and even then i would have to know that i was prpared and knew what i was doing and could cope with any emergency. _________________

Hmmm... reading my own comment back... I guess I'm my own worst critic! Why is buying another expensive snake any different from buying another car? True, I look after them both with a great deal of care and attention, but I'm still BUYING something which brings me pleasure! Something which wouldn't have been possible without breeding! Eke... sorry if I gone of the topic there a little _________________ Graphic design genius (print & web)

I am a hobbyist and dont know many people who keep snakes and for me breeding is the next challenge, it also helps pay for my collection it also allows me to buy a morph that i always wanted.
I understand that there is a few poeple out there that will just do it for the money but isant this the case for anything, wheather it is a paperclip or snake! |

I think that there is still plenty of mileage left in the royal morph market....but its going to be the established breeders with the big collections that are pushing the boundaries and creating the new morphs that sell for £1000's. The "small time" breeders and hobbyists will always be a few years behind the leaders of the pack, by which time the market price of the morph in question will have probably dropped (if not plummeted). But its all about what your expectations are, isn't it. If you are happy just to produce a few babies and make enough money so that your hobby pays for itself then price drops, unless very severe, will probably not be a major issue anyway.
What is far more likely to happen IMO is that you'll get a much more evident hierarchy develop within the various morphs. It will no longer be about having an albino or a spider royal per se, it will be about having an albino or a spider from a specific breeder or bloodline. So the small time hobbyist producing royals will not only have to contend with price drops due to the "time lag" issue, but also because they don't have an established name in the market place. IMO it will be more about having designer morphs from designer breeders!!

Lynne if you're looking for more mojos let me know. i can do a good price for you, and you know me and where I get them from so no issues with feeding etc, even if there was I am local enough to you to pop along and help you get them feeding again.
On the subject of the post.
You just need to look at the Albino, how long has that morph been around the £1000 mark, it's been there a hell of a long time, why because it is a stunning morph and people still want it, therefore demand outweighs supply, there are other morphs out there like the Piebald, BELs, etc that all fall into this category but others like the blackback. perhaps the black pastel and loads of others that do not fall into this category and will therefore plummet in price. As with everything it is the sought after specimens that remain highly priced for longer (i.e. Ferrari or Skoda).
Anyway, everyone has their opinion and mine is that the nicer morphs will remain above that £1000 (albinos, etc ) or even the £2000 (piebalds, etc) mark for a long time yet. The many thousands of pounds morphs will still be around while NERD and the likes continue to work at the bleeding edge and only very occasionally will us "normal" breeders make it rich by hitting a new morph first, but we are not in it for the money are we, we are in it for the love and the kicks.
Hope this all makes sense, but IMO royal morphs, especially recessives will remain popular and keep their prices for a long time yet, it's the crazy co-Dom market at the moment that will eventually end up dead. IMO co-Dom's, while beautiful in their own right, will eventually be only slightly higher in price than a normal, perhaps around the 100-150 mark and used by money making breeders only to bolster their recessive morphs producing morphs such as the spider pie.
OK rant over, lol hope it all makes sense. |
