Royals are wonderful snakes. Normally gentle, but full of character.

Both of mine are usually good feeders - but can be fussy. Byron, who I've had since he was a hatchling for a long time would not eat rats. He would eat mice but when I tried him on rat pups he turned his nose up. We just gave him as much mice as he wanted. Then last winter he decided to stop eating for a while and although I kept offering him food he only ate a couple of times in a 3/4 month period. He wasn't losing weight so I wasn't too worried. Then he started looking like he was hungry, prowling around the viv and so on. I offered him a mouse. He shot me a look of disgust and turned his nose up. Thinking to myself "Uh oh. Gerbils" I tried him with a weaner rat and you've never seen anything disappear so fast. He's been munching on rats ever since.

My other Royal Bobby (who was a rescue) is a real fusspot. Sometimes he likes rats, other times he likes mice. He's in mouse phase just now till he gets fed up with mice and goes back on rats.

(Sigh). Don't you just love 'em Laughing

Meant to add to that, neither of them have ever been aggressive in any way, not even at feeding time.
