I was at London Zoo last sunday. The reptile house is indeed impressive, especially compared to other Zoo Reptile houses.
I wasn't as impressed with the rest of the zoo. Nothing that stood out, not even anything to do with the enclosures, although some of them could be better imho.
I wasn't impressed with the new bug house, it started quite good, but needs so much more, I think there were about a dozen different species, which considering the world of inverts, is not a lot at all.
The Aquarium was really quite bad, however, I think they may have some work going on, but I am not sure.
By far my biggest disappointment was the Komodo Dragon. It may have been me or the build up given to them, but I was expecting to see some great lumbering beast, and all I saw was something no bigger than a large monitor . I was quite upset tbh.
I think, with hindsight, my problem with ZSL is that with other zoo's, even you don't see any animals, it's usually still a nice walk. But with ZSL, it's a concrete slab with fences. To me, it still seems set in the 70's in some ways.
I was glad I left the Reptile House until last, because that lifted my spirits for the end of the day.
Other than the Rep House, the bonus was that I traded in just £10 of Tesco vouchers for £40 worth of Zoo Vouchers, making it a rather cheap day. _________________ 31August2008-Kent Reptile Show (Amphibians & Inverts welcome) for more information & Booking e:mail: mrac@sky.com |
