Clever Sod indeed.

I know from creating a 3ft dartfrog tank that plant selection is very important and it takes a lot of maintenance to get these things look good.

The man must know his stuff!

If done right first time, they shouldn`t need cleaning out. The plants would just need cutting back.

Vivarium "custodians" are normally introduced such as spring tails and tropical wood lice. These eat the molds and fungi which a warm and humid environment invitably creates. The resident frogs etc will in turn eat a lot of these custodians, and the frog poop will feed the plants. So it goes full circle and if balanced out properly from the beginning, will not require cleaning out for a considerable time, if at all.

I wouldn`t mind betting that underneath the "Soil" that the terrestrial plants are growing in, there will be a membrane and then a layer of "LECA" which will , with it`s increased surface area, allow the colonisation by healthy amounts of bacteria to aid with breaking down waste matter. Wink
