Very sweet looking animals! How much fruit do they get through in a day, and are they messy?? |

Sam, two of them I picked up that day yes.
Lol 93, it really depends from one day to the other how much they eat to be honest. For the last three nights in a row, two heaped bowlfuls (cat sized bowls) have been emptied. Some nights there will be some left overs but not often. Tonight they are having papaya, mango, banana, nectarine, pear, cucumber (which they seem to love) and some Iams cat biscuits pre soaked for a protein boost. Any mess that they make falls to the tray under the roosting/feeding areas and is cleared away the next day.
Davo, I believe that there ARE diurnal species of fruit bat. The species that I have however, Rousettas aegyptiacus, appear to be nocturnal. They spend the day huddled together roosting, with the occasional stirring. Night time is a lot busier and is when they do all of their feeding and flying and is also the time when interactions such as the odd squabble occurs. I was reading the other morning at 4am when they decided to have a bit of an argument which made me chuckle. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
