also sorry pain in backside arnt i could i give him some live crickets say 3/4 see what happens or should i leave that a week or so till he has settled

I find that baby Cresteds prefer livefood (brown crickets, waxmoths etc) to babyfood. In fact I don't offer babyfood/fruit until they are around four months old.

I know others will disagree with me but, in my opinion I feel the viv is too big for him at the moment (as he is only four/five weeks old). Personally I would house him in something smaller (a large pet-pal for example) for a few months. Not only will it make him feel more secure but it will give you the chance to monitor his feeding, shedding etc. more closely. I understand the arguement that in the wild they wouldn't be in a small environment (they'd be up in the trees) but I still feel a smaller viv is better for hatchlings when in captivity.

If you don't want to put him into something smaller, try bowl feeding him crickets. All that means is putting the crickets in a high sided bowl (one which your Crested can get in and out of easily but the crickets can't).

i dont want to change his enviroment again, as it cost so much to seet up and dont want to have to start again with another cage, plus it might stress him more keep moving him. i will try the crickets though and see how it goes thanks for your help. if that dont work as a last resort i will move him

I understand what Jackie means though but if you have you viv well set up, plenty of hides and cover (live & fake plants etc) he will be fine in there, Crickets are a definate yes, I feed crickets & CGD from day one, some probably won't touch CGD others ignore crickets some love both.


The CGD should be like water when you place it in the viv, it soon goes a little thicker, if you put it in too thick it puts them off. I have far better results now I use it runny like water (all bowls are empty by morning).

I still feel hatchlings/youngsters do better in smaller vivs. We shall agree to disagree.

thanks for that scott, think he/she is ok now have put food in his/her fav place so should be eating fine now, he must be eating something by now. do you bowl feed your crickets or put them in loose. also i have another viv and want to get him a mate, i no i have to quarantine them for 3 months but have necessary equipment can you help it would be best to get one from the same person the first one came from many thanks

if you bought another from the same group then I wouldn't worry about quarantine unless you leave a big gap between each purchase.

I leave my crickets free ranging in the viv, they will also eat the GCD
